Massage and the different types....
Massage is a traditional healing art used for centuries across the globe to promote and restore health. Massage is a manual practice used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body to enhance healing and a feeling of well being. Massage has the potential to heal on a physical, psychological, and spiritual level through touch.

There are many types of bodywork currently practiced today.
We offer the following:
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage, also known as classic massage, is the foundation for the other types of western style massage like deep tissue, sports, and aromatherapy. It is a firm but gentle massage with long gliding strokes, kneading and some friction on the superficial layers of the body. It enhances circulation, relieves muscle tension and aids in relaxation. Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage uses any of the techniques as Swedish massage but is usually slower with more intense pressure. It is a more focused massage on specific areas of chronic tension or "knots". The therapist works to remove these adhesions on the deeper muscle structures and fascia. This type of massage can be uncomfortable at times, and it is important the therapist and client communicate during the session. This type of massage can help to relieve chronic neck stiffness and low back pain. It helps relieve pain from past injuries and conditions such as osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and whiplash among others. (Top)
Craniosacral
Craniosacral massage was developed by osteopathic physicians and is the gentle manipulation of the skull and facial bones. The therapist works with the craniosacral flow or the rhythm of the spinal fluid from cranium to sacrum. It is a very gentle and subtle massage using light touch. The client generally remains clothed and the session length varies. This type of massage can help relieve migraines and headaches, head trauma, chronic pain, stress and stress related disorders among other conditions and injuries of the spine and skeletal systems. Pregnancy Massage
Pre-natal massage helps the mother to relax and release emotional stress. It addresses the additional strain on the lower back, neck, legs and feet. It can also help improve circulation and reduce swelling. Massage can be beneficial postpartum to relieve general stress and offer a break from the demands of the infant, as well as relieve additional tension placed on the upper body from nursing and holding the baby. This type of massage can aid in the recovery from childbirth by healing damaged tissue, assisting in restoring the muscle wall, and realigning the body to its pre-pregnancy state. (Top)
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a massage performed with the use of essential oils. They are added to the massage oil and absorbed through the skin. The inhaled aromas affect the limbic system of the brain, which is the emotional center. Aromatherapy can be uplifting, calming, energizing or cleansing. It is particularly suited to ease stress and balance emotions. (Top)
Acupressure
An ancient Chinese massage therapy that applies pressure to points along the 14 meridians that run lengthwise along the body. The therapist uses firm pressure to slowly release tension and pain along the meridians. Acupuncture follows the same guidelines but uses needles at specific points along the meridians, instead of pressure. This type of therapy can increase circulation, relieve pain and tension, and can offer relief from headaches and neck stiffness, among other benefits. (Top)
Trigger-Point Massage
Trigger point massage is the combination of trigger point therapy and Swedish massage concentrating on the sensitive and painful areas of the muscle. Trigger points are areas of tenderness in a muscle and can form in muscles that have been overexerted, injured due to an accident, or traumatized due to surgery. Poor posture can also cause the formation of trigger points. This type of massage is not relaxing and passive, it can be quite intense and requires active participation from the client. Trigger-point massage can significantly reduce pain, increase range of motion and circulation, and can increase flexibility. (Top)
